But in many ways you're better off using a dedicated app for this, and using Audition as an editor to assemble your stuff afterwards, which is what it really excels at. Yes, if you can get virtual audio cable to work, it's possible to do all of your recording in Audition. Recording Skype also has its issues, and there are several Skype-specific recorders out there - many of them free, and easy to find with a search. You only use it for capture - doesn't really do anything else, but it sets up the whole recording scenario for you, and also lets you capture the mic too. Then I arm each track onto a Mono track Line 1, 2 and 3. What I usually do is I open the audio hardware, change the drive to ASIO and then find the Presonus for the output and input. What I use is SoundTap - Streaming Audio Recorder. In terms of audition, I record in multitrack mode, and Im usually recording myself and 2 other hosts on my Presonus Audiobox 1818 VSL. Trouble is, that's seriously difficult to do, and it's not my preferred way at all these days. There is a technically very advanced way that in principle would let you record streaming audio direct into Audition, and that uses something called Virtual Audio Cable. I tried connecting the output of the computer to the input of my mixer and see that the mixer is receiving audio, but Audition still does. However, if I try to record what ever is playing on my computer speakers, just static or a buzz is recorded in audition. There are, fortunately, a number of ways around this - some more complicated than others. If I record speech on a mic on one of the channels, it records perfectly in Audition. So they make it rather hard for you to do in a lot of instances. but unfortunately Microsoft and the RIAA don't want you to record desktop audio (aka 'what you hear', etc) at all, because you might record something that's copyrighted. Yes, it's a nice simple thing you want to do.
